National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day
Today is the National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day and we here at SERVPRO of Harlingen and San Benito would like to give our token of appreciation to all the men and women that serve in the United States Armed Forces that risk their lives for all the people in this country. Today seventy-seven years ago the largest number of soldiers from the United States Forces were taken by Japanese troops in the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines. They endured a lot of pain because the Japanese forced them to walk 65 miles back to the prison camp without food, water, or medical supplies. Due to this thousands of soldiers died, and the ones that did survive suffered horrible treatment, brutality, and hardships. Many Prisoners of Wars (POW) suffer treatment like this and these heroes have earned the right to be recognized not just on this day but every day of the year! Once again SERVPRO of Harlingen and San Benito would like to thank the strong men and women who are doing what they do to protect this great country!

Prepare for Hurricane Harvey
With tropical storm/hurricane Harvey on the way, SERVPRO of Harlingen/San Benito would like to share some tips on hurricane preparedness.
1. Formulate an evacuation plan and identify the closest safety shelter in your area.
2. Be attentive to local radio or NOAA radio, & television weather reports.
3. Gather protective clothing, as well as food (ready-to-eat canned fruits, vegetables, & meats) & water (gallons of bottled water).
4. Have first aid (non-prescription drugs, CPR breathing barrier, etc.), supply & tool kits (a whistle, fire extinguisher, battery operated ratio, batteries, etc.) at hand.
We hope that this list helps you & your families remain safe this weekend. Look for more information on websites, like www.redcross.org, or contact your city's Office of Emergency Management.
Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month
Did you know that July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month?
According to the Juvenile Arthritis Association, almost 300,000 patients under 16 years of age are affected.
Arthritis is a blanket term for various types of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Examples of Juvenile Arthritis include; Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Juvenile Dermatomyositis, Juvenile Lupus, Juvenile Scleroderma, Kawasaki Disease, and Fibromyalgia. Each condition has its own distinct set of symptoms, but joint swelling, pain, and redness are most common among them all. While there is no known cure for the conditions, there are treatments to alleviate symptoms and manage the patient's pain.
SERVPRO of Harlingen/San Benito would like to help you spread awareness. If you have questions about Juvenile Arthritis, ask your doctor for information today.
